Why We Built Bloom

We didn’t set out to build a company. We just wanted to stop wasting so much time on our phones.

The Problem We Couldn't Ignore

As two college students, we found ourselves wasting hours every day mindlessly scrolling on Instagram, TikTok, or YouTube.

We’d tell ourselves we’d check our phones for just a minute, and somehow an hour would go by. We tried all the usual fixes like productivity apps or Apple's Screen Time feature. But nothing stuck. The truth is, we’d always find a way around it.

That’s when we had an idea: what if we made it physically harder to open our distracting apps?

A Physical Solution

Bloom started as a simple concept: a keycard you’d need to scan to unlock distracting apps. If you didn’t have the card with you, you couldn’t get in. No cheating.

We figured if we could leave the card behind, we could finally leave our distractions behind too.

So we built it. In our dorm rooms. With no real funding, no experience, and more than a few broken prototypes. We maxed out our credit cards. We ran customer support from the back of lecture halls. And we kept going, because it was working for thousands of people.

Why We're Still Here

Now, Bloom is helping people get more done at work, stay off Instagram at night, be more present with their families, and reclaim time they didn’t even realize they were losing.

We’re still building. Still learning. Still getting better. And we’re really glad you’re here.
